Biographical Note

Physicist, with wide-ranging interests in the fields of history, philosophy and epistemology. Born in Belgium, 1904. Doctor from Univ. of Liège 1926. Studied in Paris, 1926-27 (Louis de Broglie, Leon Brillouin, Paul Langevin), Göttingen, 1927-29 (Max Born) and Zurich, 1929-30 (Wolfgang Pauli). From 1930-41, Rosenfeld taught theoretical physics at U. of Liège. Utrecht, 1940-47. Manchester, 1947-1958. NORDITA, Copenhagen (1958-1974). Chief Editor, Nuclear Physics (1955-1974). Was personal assistant to, and close collaborator of, Niels Bohr from 1930-1962. Research on quantum electrodynamics, epistemology of quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, especially nuclear reactions, statistical mechanics, history of science.
