Name: Pihl, Mogens (1907-1986)
Historical Note: Danish physicist. Studied in Göttingen 1927-1929; attended lectures by a.o. Pohl and Born. Mag. scient. 1931, Copenhagen University gold medal 1935, Dr. phil. 1939 (with dissertation: Der Physiker L.V. Lorentz). Worked mainly as a high school teacher until 1957. As a professor of mathematics under UNESCO, he stayed in Monrovia, Liberia, 1951-52 to help build up a science faculty at the local university, and he had teaching assignments at the Danish Naval Academy and the Royal Danish School of Educational Studies, in the period before 1957. Prof. phys. at Copenhagen University 1957-77. He took a special interest in the paedagogical aspects of both university and gymnasium education and in the history of science.
