Leiden, 1934-52. Research and numerous publ. on quantum physics incl. intensity of atomic spectra, normalising problems of charging and of mass; work on dispersion of light, among K.'s most importent contributions (1924); predicted, in paper with Heisenberg the same year, Raman effect. Died Oegstgeest, Holland 1952
